Bitcoin’s principal historical data feeds placed the asset below $60,000 on June 28, 2026, extending a June retreat and producing the lowest 2026 daily close then visible in the Yahoo Finance BTC-USD series.

CoinMarketCap’s June 28 historical snapshot recorded bitcoin at $59,532.34, down 0.68% over its stated 24-hour comparison and 5.86% over seven days. The same snapshot listed a market capitalization of $1,193,598,678,587.92, a circulating supply of 20,049,584 BTC and reported 24-hour volume of $16,282,230,874.19.

Yahoo Finance’s BTC-USD daily record carried the same $59,532.34 closing value. Its June 28 candle opened at $59,940.35, reached a high of $60,432.71 and a low of $58,879.63. Those figures describe an aggregated BTC-USD series, not an executable price available across every exchange.

What the numbers establish

The strongest defensible conclusion is that the broad dollar price of bitcoin finished the June 28 measurement period below $60,000. Coinranking’s separate historical table returned a June 28 value of $59,759.12 and a decline of 0.74%. The $226.78 difference between Coinranking and the $59,532.34 CoinMarketCap figure equals approximately 0.38% of the CoinMarketCap observation.

That dispersion does not invalidate the directional finding. Bitcoin trades continuously across exchanges, and data companies may use different venue sets, weighting systems, cutoff times or conversion paths. It does mean that $59,532.34 should be attributed to the CoinMarketCap and Yahoo Finance records rather than presented as a universal market close.

CoinMarketCap’s market-cap figure is also internally consistent within rounding: multiplying its stated circulating supply by its stated bitcoin price produces approximately $1.1936 trillion. That is a verification of the snapshot’s arithmetic, not an independent measurement of circulating supply or realizable market value.

Why June 28 mattered

The sub-$60,000 reading carried more informational weight than the modest one-day percentage change. A round-number break can affect derivatives positioning, collateral calculations and market commentary even when no single announcement causes it. On June 28, however, the cited records do not establish a specific regulatory decision, company disclosure, protocol failure or macroeconomic release as the cause.

The wider snapshot showed weakness beyond bitcoin. CoinMarketCap placed ether at $1,570.36, down 7.87% over seven days; BNB at $550.70, down 5.66%; XRP at $1.0476, down 6.83%; and dogecoin at $0.07309, down 11.05%. Solana was a relative exception at $71.31, with a positive 1.28% 24-hour reading but a negative 1.53% seven-day comparison. These are platform snapshot figures using CoinMarketCap’s own windows, not returns calculated from exchange-level closing auctions.

Limits of a crypto “close”

Unlike a conventional exchange session, bitcoin trading does not stop at a closing bell. Coinbase’s official documentation illustrates the methodological issue: its historical candle endpoint groups trades into specified time buckets, defines open and close as the first and last trades in a bucket, and warns that historical rates may be incomplete when no ticks occur. Coinbase also describes its commercial daily OHLCV interval as running from 00:00 UTC inclusive to 00:00 UTC exclusive.

Accordingly, this reconstruction treats June 28 as a dated market observation, not proof that every holder faced the same price or that the move had one identifiable catalyst. The verified development was cross-feed convergence below $60,000; causal explanations remained unproven on June 28, 2026.
