Cardano’s ADA led a broad cryptocurrency rebound on May 30, 2021, while bitcoin recovered above $35,000 after falling into the mid-$33,000s during the preceding session. CoinMarketCap’s historical snapshot placed ADA at $1.5773, up 12.16% over its displayed 24-hour comparison. Bitcoin was $35,678.13, up 3.07%, and ether was $2,390.31, up 4.86%.
The recovery mattered because it interrupted—without resolving—the severe repricing that had dominated cryptocurrency markets during May 2021. Bitcoin remained far below its April 14 peak, and a positive 24-hour comparison did not establish that the selloff had ended. The May 30 record instead showed buyers returning selectively to a continuously traded market after another weak weekend session.
A rebound that changed during the session
The CoinMarketCap snapshot valued bitcoin’s circulating supply at approximately $667.98 billion and reported $31.65 billion in rolling 24-hour volume. Ether’s calculated market capitalization was approximately $277.49 billion, with $25.88 billion in reported volume. ADA ranked fourth by market capitalization at approximately $50.39 billion and recorded $4.97 billion in volume.
These capitalization figures are price multiplied by reported circulating supply; they do not measure cash entering the assets. Likewise, the volume figures aggregate activity over rolling 24-hour windows and should not be interpreted as audited turnover on one exchange.
A Reuters observation at 12:00 GMT on May 30 captured a stronger point in the recovery. Reuters placed bitcoin at $36,447.68, up 5.24% from its previous-close reference, and ether at $2,467.58, up 8.25%. The lower CoinMarketCap snapshot values show that part of that intraday advance had faded by the provider’s dated observation.
The figures are complementary rather than interchangeable. Reuters supplied timestamped point prices and its own previous-close comparison. CoinMarketCap supplied an aggregated historical snapshot and displayed 24-hour changes. Cryptocurrency had no consolidated closing auction, so different venues, aggregation systems and observation times could produce different prices and returns.
Cardano separated from the largest assets
ADA’s 12.16% displayed gain was substantially larger than the advances in bitcoin and ether. CoinMarketCap also showed XRP up 9.00%, BNB up 6.80%, Polygon’s MATIC up 9.82% and Uniswap’s UNI up 11.06%. Dogecoin was an exception among the largest non-stable assets, declining 0.29% over the same displayed comparison.
Contemporaneous reporting associated interest in Cardano with progress toward the planned Alonzo smart-contract upgrade. That explanation was plausible market context, not demonstrated causation. No transaction-level evidence established that upgrade expectations produced a specified portion of ADA’s return, and the planned functionality was not active on Cardano’s main network on May 30.
The breadth of positive readings nevertheless distinguished May 30 from the renewed selling recorded on May 29. The session was not simply a bitcoin move: several large protocol tokens advanced faster than the market’s largest asset.
What May 30 established
The defensible conclusion is narrow. Major cryptocurrencies rebounded on May 30, ADA led the large-cap group in CoinMarketCap’s snapshot, and bitcoin recovered above $35,000 after trading below $34,000 on May 29. The record did not identify a permanent bottom, prove a single catalyst or restore the valuations reached earlier in 2021.
That limitation is especially important for a 24-hour market. The May 30 rebound represented a dated phase of price discovery during an unsettled month, not evidence that regulatory, environmental or liquidity concerns had been resolved.
